C'est le printemps!

Salut EMS French Families,
C’est le printemps! (Spring!) Third trimester is off to a great start as we welcomed new 6th grade
students into French and continued our work in grade 7 & 8 classes.

What have we been learning?

6th Grade - 2nd trimester students finished the semester with creating their own Google Tours about
places to visit in Paris and celebrated the end of the trimester with a last day fĂȘte in French.
3rd trimester students so far have learned how to greet someone, ask/tell names, and say goodbye.
They just started learning colors in French and explored some Springtime vocabulary too!

7th Grade - Students wrapped up our unit on describing yourself and others and are working on completing our school unit. So far in this unit of study, students have learned: how to identify people and objects related to school, school subjects, #’s70-100, plural articles (les, des), how to use -er verbs, and how to make sentences negative. Students created their own Google Info Slideshow about a school in France as well. We will continue to work with using -er verbs to say what you like or do not like to do, differences between Tu & Vous, and numbers 100-1000 as we prepare for our unit test soon. Then we will be starting our unit on family.

8th Grade - The last half of January we finished our unit on the café and restaurant. Since then students have
started a unit on food and grocery shopping. During this time they have learned: how to identify and shop for
food, the verb faire (to do/to make), quantities, how to use the partitive to express some or any (du,de la, des,
de l’) and definite articles with likes and dislikes (le, la, les, l’), and the negative form of the partitive (de/d’).
After our unit test, students will be starting their clothing unit.

EHS French 3 Preparation - This month students planning to take French 3 next year at Essex High School
began their weekly lunch prep sessions. During this time the students meet with me during lunch on Fridays to
be introduced to French 2 material. These sessions are meant to expose them to the content and to provide
them with the resources to study the material on their own during the summer before school starts. Each week
I post the new content on their Quizlet page, so they can start to practice the new vocabulary and grammar
points. Prior to summer break the students will receive a packet of practice worksheets which they should
complete in August to review before school starts. Last week we looked at train travel vocabulary, -IR verbs,
and demonstrative adjectives to express this or that. Our next session will look at sports, the past tense of
regular verbs, question words, the verbs boire (to drink), devoir (to owe), and recevoir (to receive).

STEAM Day - During our half day March 12, our activity in French was La Tour Eiffel (The Eiffel Tower).
Students signed up for this activity learned about how the Eiffel tower came to be and then created their own
Eiffel towers using styrofoam, toothpicks, and popsicle sticks. At the end of the session they made mini
marshmallow towers!
